Ada Rogovtseva Voice-Acted in the Animated Film Bobe-Mayses
The acclaimed theatre and film actress has lent her voice to the animated film by director Olena Kasavina, created in 1993 and based on Jewish folklore. The premiere of the restored film, featuring the new Ukrainian dubbing, is set for this fall.
"The film is wonderful, perfect, full of humour. It's both serious and philosophical. The animation is beautiful. To me, it’s a masterpiece," shares Ada Rogovtseva.
The director humorously notes that Ada Rogovtseva added extra work for the creative team. Every take she recorded was so perfect that it was impossible to choose just one.
Olena Kasavina adds, "When I became a grandmother, I understood. The film is called ‘Grandmother’s Tales,’ but the story is told by a man. Why? And that’s where Ada Rogovtseva’s idea came in. As soon as I imagined it, I knew that only she, and no one else, could fulfil this role... Working with her was one of the happiest moments of my life. It was a dream come true. I’m still in awe of her."
Importantly, this marks the first time in Ukraine’s history that an animated film created in Russian has been re-voiced in Ukrainian and reintroduced into the country’s cultural sphere.
